The Vaccines are back yet again with another new single off of their sophomore album, Come Of Age. Once again I’m left with the feeling of disappointment. It looks like The Vaccines, and it sounds like The Vaccines, but I’m not entirely sure where the band’s lyricism has gone; we’ve went from casual, sardonic observation of the world around them to a heavy dose of introspection.
There’s nothing wrong with “Teenage Icon” as a song, it just doesn’t resonate with me like the old tracks – or even Arni’s track which was the B-side to the first single.
I’m guessing the success that the band had all at once inspired some of this; ultimately, everything is just as catchy as it once was…it’s just not quite the same content.
Who am I to judge though? At least they were willing to change it up a bit. I do like the video however, even though there isn’t a lot going on. I bet they were roasting in that elevator.
