Mrs. Magician just released their debut album, Strange Heaven, a few months back and among it’s cleverly demented tracks was “Dead 80’s”; a track that is ridiculously happy, ridiculously catchy, and that you will never hear on the radio because it’s ridiculously fucked.
It sort of reminds me of a chilled out Misfits “Where Eagles Dare”, where instead of talking about themselves a-la Misfits, Mrs. Magician are singing about a particularly saucy girl.
It’s less incendiary than that classic track, but what “The Dead 80’s” lacks in venom it makes up for in acerbic commentary. Some might call the lyrics juvenile…I’d call them refreshing. After all, there’s only so many metaphors you can cram into a surf rock jam.
Sometimes you just gotta call ’em like you see ’em.
The video itself seems to be a hallucinatory experience of a drive/walk/stroll through the Strange Heaven cover art. My favorite part is the big arm throwing the football that turns into a comet. I know, it sounds silly…but trust me, it’s good.
It’s definitely an entertaining video and works splendidly in combination with the track. Watch the video below, and connect with Mrs. Magician via Facebook.
