While I have been fully unaware of the sound of SZA, I’ve been immersed in the sounds coming from producer Felix Snow. It was an inevitability that I’d throw on some SZA tracks sooner or later, due to amount of work they’ve done together, I’m just sad it was later and not sooner.
I really thought SZA was a rapper (based on the name), not an R&B/pop artist with a pretty healthy talent that makes me question why she isn’t dominating coverage a-la BANKS and some of the other vocal darlings of 2013. I suppose signing with an imprint (Top Dawg Entertainment) of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label will make up for any ill will she might have in that regard. I guess it’s too late to say we see big things in her future, right?
Enjoy “Julia” below, with it’s 80’s influence and SZA’s lovely vocals you can’t go wrong. Pay attention to that beautiful outro while you’re at it.
