“You’re just a sinner waiting for the saints to lie,” cautions Split Screens frontman Jesse Cafiero on the band’s newest single “The Sinner”. Every bit the melodic jam you’d expect from the San Francisco group, the newest single bakes in an upbeat rhythm with some long, mournful vocals for an effect Cafiero describes as “a kind of cowboy on mescaline imagery”. It does remind me a bit of the lonesome trek of Roland Deschain, to be honest.
The track is the second single from Split Screens upcoming LP, following the splendid “Close Your Eyes”. You might get a little lonesome listening to “Close Your Eyes” and particularly “The Sinner” back to back, but not to worry. There’s a full album from Split Screens coming in June.
Split Screens are releasing “The Sinner” with exclusive (non-album) B-side “Meeker Hollow” in 7″ format on March 18th. Pick it up on Bandcamp.
