“To The South” is the first single from Motorama’s upcoming album Calendar, manifesting as a slice of sea-side sounds and a touch of spring weather. Two things caught my ears on my first listen to Motorama; the ringing guitar (beautiful!), and the vocals, which sound oddly reminiscent of Sirens alums Lightouts. It was a bit hard for me to shake at first, but ultimately I’ve discovered it kind of adds to the pleasure.
Motorama are from Rostov-on-Don according to the press release I received, which is a port city in Russia. This is interesting to me for several reasons. Rostov-on-Don is going to serve as one of the host cities for the 2018 World Cup. Second and only broadly related, Alexander Ovechkin is, of course, from Russia and I am a huge Washington Capitals fan.
I can say with a fair amount of confidence that I don’t believe I’ve thrown up any Russian music on Sirens of Decay so far, but today that changes. I’ve certainly not thrown up any indie rock from the country, at the least. All this to say, you are missing out on some crisp tunes from Motorama. “To The South” is a beauty, don’t overlook it.
