I’ve never been a big James Blake fan…hold on now, don’t shake your head at me. I know his debut was beloved by many, but if you’ve been reading my blog for any time over the last several years you know I don’t get too deep into the heady, atmospheric side of indie music. Some people listen to music to chill, relax, or whatever. Some listen because of their mood. My life is pretty stable; I don’t need to chill, and I don’t really need mood music…so I guess you could say I kind of miss the boat on some of these artists. There’s also this strange prejudice I have against artists using real names in their band/group/performing name. I just don’t like it.
There’s something about “Digital Lion” that resonates with me more than “The Wilhelm Scream” ever did. That’s the only other James Blake track I’ve ever posted, fairly or not. This track just hummed through me though. It feels mildly threatening, to be honest, but altogether structured in such a way that I feel like I could fall asleep to this track. I’d have the strangest dreams, likely, but I could.
It’s definitely aural bliss.
