In what seems like ages ago, I wrote about this dude calling himself Oregon Bike Trail. He released this double sided single with “High School Lover” and “Cayucas”. The sounds were beautiful, like fresh ocean waves lapping up to your ears and 80 degrees and clear beaming down on your back. In the end, that was the last I heard of Zach Yudin…though I will admit to being so swamped I never looked too hard.
As I said in that September 2011 post about “Cayucas”, Yudin had determined that Oregon Bike Trails was bigger than a solo project and had brought in a band to help produce that particular track. Some time after that, they apparently renamed themselves to Cayucas. It’s been quite a while since I first wrote about that High School Lovers 7“, but the renamed and renewed Cayucas released a slight retooling of the same track that carries their band’s moniker a few months back.
“Cayucos” takes what “Cayucas” was built with and reforms it into something a little cleaner and poppier. For example, the original intro featured a lot of strumming and clicking noise (more lo-fi, eh). Now it’s got some bombastic percussion and is more refined. This track is 100% spring and summer ready and I’m posting it here ahead of this warm weekend we are about to have.
SHOULD’VE BEEN MY
HIGH SCHOOL LOVER…track of the week like 6 months ago or something. Whenever it was released by Secretly Canadian and renamed as “Cayucos”. It’s all good though, we needed something like “Cayucos” to shake us out of our malaise on into those shorts and tanks.
You can order Bigfoot, the upcoming full length from Cayucas via SC Distribution. You can get vinyl, CD, or deluxe vinyl + CD + poster + a Cayucas beach ball. Both orders include an immediate download of the 8 track album. You know, that album that’s not out until April 30th. Yeah, you better get on that. If you’re one of the first 100, you get sexy limited translucent blue vinyl with the deluxe order.
