Just like Omar, The Dead Ships are comin’. If you don’t get my reference, nevermind. We’ll start again.
Powerful. Primal. Energetic. Raw. These are valid descriptors of The Dead Ships, one of my favorite discoveries in the three years of Sirens of Decay. Not only do they jam down with a fury, they are pretty cool dudes. Earlier this year they released A Ramble For Levon, which was a treat of course, but it wasn’t new tracks from the duo turned trio.
The wait wasn’t interminable, however, as The Dead Ships have released “Golden Room” ahead of a planned split 7″ with Wake Up Lucid sometime in September. A couple incarnations ago for the band and Sirens of Decay, I was lucky enough to get early ears on and premiere their Amaze/Friends By Default 7″. While I’m not premiering “Golden Room”, I received it with the same kind of enthusiasm.
In simple terms, that Amaze/Friends By Default 7″ was the yin and yang of The Dead Ships range of skills. They could hammer down and shred, or they could pull back and craft an eerily catchy ballad that’d have you hooked for months. If you got down with “Amaze”, you’re gonna have to break out the boosters for “Golden Room” because it’s sub three minutes of blistering, guitar driven rock ‘n roll not unlike it’s predecessor. If anything, it kicked that “Amaze” dude’s teeth in and the hook it swings is twice as catchy. This ain’t no forty degree day.
The best news in the announcement of “Golden Room”? After the 7″ releases, the band plans to head back into the studio to continue work on the follow up to Electric Ahab. Golden, indeed.
If you dig the track, here’s a video of The Dead Ships performing it live on AXS TV a few nights back.
