After a recent divergence, it’s time to go back to the wheelhouse and bring you some more golden indie rock. Twinkling guitars wedded with some wild synths abound in “Automocar”, the very first track I have ever heard from The Danks. I received their album in my inbox more than two weeks ago, yet I hadn’t bothered to check it out.
Shame on me. To be honest, I’m not sure why I didn’t listen the first time I saw the e-mail. The name of their upcoming album Are You Afraid Of The Danks? is very reminiscent of What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? which is in itself a variation on the original sound of the Arctic Monkeys and Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. That’s not to say these guys sound like either of those bands – from listening to this single track they don’t. I detect some of The Strokes influence in there, though, and more importantly…if you like those aforementioned bands (and if you’re reading Sirens I’m gonna assume you do) then odds are you’re gonna like The Danks.
“Automocar” has all the recklessness in style that I love hearing on a band’s debut album…except this isn’t the debut. This is the sophomore release! They’ve kept the joy intact and it melds well with the more refined synths that percolate this particular track. You can find out more about Are You Afraid Of The Danks? (due out May 22nd) and the band itself via Facebook.
