MP3: Sunjacket – Alligator

Chicago offers up a great new indie band in Sunjacket, a group fresh off the presses with their first four song demo effort and ready to do some convincing. Lend your ears to their charming track “Alligator”, a sweet little groove with a great bass line that drives the track all the way to it’s conclusion. Toss in a pretty sweet falsetto harmony for the chorus, and you’ve got the perfect indie rock track for those of us who still like our pop to have some rock left in it.

I shouldn’t need to say it, but “Alligator” is one of those tracks that will stick in your mind for the day from the first time you listen to it. The rhythm is that effective, and the simple spoken-style of the verse vox lend themselves to a very easy pickup of the lyrics. There’s a nice little breakdown with swirling, churning riffs in the final stanza of the track that will change things up a bit, but Sunjacket wisely keeps that winning rhythm chugging throughout.

YOU SHOULD SLITHER AWAY…to the Sunjacket Bandcamp and download all four songs from this demo EP for free. It’s a pretty excellent track, though my favorite of the four might actually be “Partition”, all told. It’s not as immediately catchy as “Alligator”, hence my write-up of this track, but I have attached it below.
