I saw Father John Misty’s track “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” on Turntable Kitchen for the first time about three days ago. The opening is enough to melt my music loving heart the moment
Jesus Christ girl, what are people gonna think?
wails out of Josh Tillman’s (formerly Fleet Foxes’ drummer) mouth. The song lies somewhere between psychedelic rock and folk – the guitars are fuzzy and warble in and out, yet the rhythm maintains this jangly kind of campfire feel that creates a nice backbone. The lyricism here goes with this music in a way that most artists would kill for, riding the amazing beat Tillman has created with the instrumentation like a good hip-hop flow.
This is hands down the best track I’ve heard in a good bit. You can download it from Subpop via the link below.
