When I say Portland, what’s the first thing that crosses your mind? Pot? The Blazers? Greg Oden’s ceramic knees? Those awesome Portland Timber scarves?
What if I told you there’s a pretty bitchin’ rock outfit hiding out there? Not only that, but “I Don’t Need Love” isn’t even the first song these dudes have sent me, oh no! It was some number of moons ago, but “Haunted, Million Ways” was our first good listen to Aan.
Aan is experimental rock with some seriously outstanding, next level vocals that you note pretty much from the beginning of “I Don’t Need Love”. Like any great track, the hook is recognizable and instantly singable – one play in the car and you’ll be jamming and yelling before the four minutes are up.
Deep within “I Don’t Need Love” is this dark groove that just swings it’s funky ass around with abandon and gives the track serious head nod-ability…if that’s even a word. Members of the rhythm section of Aan should hold their heads high; the vocals and lead riffs they are set against are blistering, but that groove is what holds this track down.
Aan are gearing up to release an LP later this year, Amor Ad Nauseum, and you can get to know these dudes a little better on Facebook. Do yourself a favor and head over to their bandcamp as well, where they are giving away name your own price copies of pretty much everything to get you pumped for the upcoming full length.
