“Every Minute” continues the ridiculous run of great tracks Lovelife has been on of late. Seriously, one four track EP and the beginnings of another, plus this tour split with The Neighbourhood? Wow.

“This is for every lie you told, for every grudge you hold, for every minute that you have wasted…”

Basically, a smooth listen for whenever you need that sort of thing. Or maybe you know someone petty and this is your jam.

Noteworthy (Stream): Jaymes Young – Dark Star

Sometimes it’s a sunny day, sometimes it’s rainy. Often you never know until the day in question is well underway. “Dark Star” doesn’t provide the answer to this question, but it’d sound absolutely superb beneath a star-filled sky.

Jaymes Young produced and belts the lyrics on “Dark Star” – quite a feat considering I’m no where near positive which aspect of the track is better. The production is dark and warbling, with thunderous beats that are amplified by Jaymes’ silk-laden vocals.

You might think you’ve heard something like this before. You have, but it’s been a while since it was delivered this well. More please.

Another piece of gold just lying in the riverbed, waiting on me to come by (and search Soundcloud) and snatch it. “Daydream” sounds just like it’s title…intentionally, I’m sure.

This track is very relaxing. It reminds me of the never-ending back roads of home…or about as far from Brooklyn as it gets.

This is a full on audio/aural massage.

I floated through all four minutes of this beauty. “Pendulum” is serene and weirdly elegant. It’s the type of track as apt to be on a playlist for beach-side relaxation as it would be on repeat during a crisp sunny day in January.

Moon Tides will be out August 20th in the US.

It seems I (we) can never get enough of these dreamy beats + falsetto vocals. I’m racking my brain to think of one artist in this style that has popped out in the last year or two that I couldn’t listen to repeatedly and failing miserably.

The sheer sound of “Please? (Vignette)” is unbelievably engrossing – the way it pulses in your head while Gallant drops those sweet vox is worth a replay or six.

A huge thanks to Gold Flake Paint for turning me on to Gallant and this track.

Finally, to cap off your Monday evening we’ve got a new track from Luna Is Honey. “6AM” is a romantic blast of upbeat percussion, burnished with fuzz and reminiscence. Luna Is Honey captured the young (or “new”) love dynamic perfectly here – the frenetic pace, the questionable decisions, and of course that starstruck gloss that coats your eyes and mind in those early days of courtship.

“6 in the morning baby, you are on fire, we’ve been driving ’round all night on all four flat tires…”

Luna Is Honey have often had interesting artwork, and this particular art was created by Japanese comic artist Ricken. You can pick up GUM – A Compilation of Works which pulls together some of the best Luna Is Honey tracks from ’09 til now on the Higher Life bandcamp.

This is a welcome addition to the first sunny day in some time. The Chainsmokers said that they “wanted to create something that really screams ‘let me in I want to fucking dance, but I also brought my own beer.’”

Success, gentlemen.

I think that if we all take a moment and be honest, this was what we wanted to have someone do with “Julian”. It’s a great track, no lie, but it was begging for someone to put some bounce to it.

I dig getting tracks from The Chainsmokers just to read their interesting introductions. They are very colorful individuals, apparently, and easily the best retired high school athletes turned producers around.

Noteworthy (Stream): The Neighbourhood – West Coast

Plot twist? The Neighbourhood releases a new track that dives headfirst into their hip-hop influences. “West Coast” is the most hip-hop influenced track since their initial EP release, and while it might take some adjusting for the unfamiliar it’s actually an intriguing step for the band. What if they’d have continued in the “Sweater Weather”/”West Coast” direction instead of “Wires”/”Let It Go”? Food for thought.

“If the sun was God I’d be covered in faith, if the ocean was the devil I’d be covered in hate…”

“West Coast” is a love letter to California, warts and all. Kudos to The Neighbourhood for stepping back into the sunlight. All that doom and gloom was getting a bit depressing.

According to Pigeons and Planes, this track is part of a 7″ release that will only be found on their current tour. It will also contain tracks from their supporting acts: Lovelife, JMSN, and The 1975.
